Return of the Video Nasty

Looks like the legislation on "video nasties" may or may not be returning.

In this case, with SS Experiment Camp. I haven't seen the film, but I have seen rape-revenge slasher I Spit on Your Grave. The latter stayed in my mind a while and it have got me thinking more about film-making [techniques].

But here's something you never hear (and probably never will):

"BAN THE PASSION!"

Mayeb some Jews said that, thinking The Passion of the Christ was anti-Semitic, but no Christian I've heard seems concerned that this 2-hour bloodbath actually led to at least two elderly people DYING while (or after) watching it!

I'm not interesting in banning The Passion of course but if one should go about banning graphically-violent films, why not include this one?

Star Trek Teaser

The teaser trailer for the new Star Trek film is now up:

It shows glimpses of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 being built. It definitely looks like Star Trek has had a break (the last film being in 2002 and Enterprise ending in 2005).

I think people worrying about this being a remake with new actors playing the original crew and rest at ease. The way I see it, it's like the new Doctor Who - the same show but repackaged after a long break.

RE: Doctor Who's Titanic

OK, I admit to have been wrong to complain about the Titanic in space. It was great. And purists moaning about the Queen's bit in the Christmas special - IT WAS CHRISTMAS!

Torchwood: Series 2

And so tonight we returned to Cardiff for the first of 13 weeks of Doctor Who's "adult" spin-off Torchwood. It's been a while since I've last watched it but I managed to settle in quite quickly. Visually it looks shinier than Series One (I gather that was a rather hurried production).

James Marsters (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) looks to be a recurring character as Captain John Hart (perhaps like Star Trek: The Next Generation's Q) and of course we will be seeing Freema Agyreman return as Martha Jones. We got a preview of what looks to be a near epic(ish) series (nuclear warheads, end of the world etc. - as if a giant demon stomping Cardiff in Series One's apocalyptic finale wasn't epic enough!) with all the gratuitous sex references thrown in (it's the end of the world and Owen Harper's suggestion is "Lets all have sex.")

Any Christians eager for the pre-watershed edit of the first episode should'nt expect a squeaky-clean cut though I may yet be surprised. I still expect Captian Jack awkwardly asking Ianto out on a date.

Doctor Who: Voyage of the Damned teaser

Been quite looking forward to the Christmas special, but surprised to find out that this Titanic is a spaceship.

Futurama has done this before and I read that Douglas Adams (creator of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has done it before then).

Despite that, the ship still looks good (like something out of Star Trek.

But with this, and Torchwood getting castrated, AND the return of Billie Piper next year as Rose Tyler, it seems the new Doctor Who may be going down hill a bit.

Prince Caspian Trailer

Blooming 'eck, the next Narnia looks rather good! It looks better than the OK first one (though Caspian seems a bit wet).

Captain Jack Gets Castrated

The next series of Torchwood will be shown in two versions.

One will be the uncut adult version; and the other will be edited to make it "suitable" for family viewing.

Doesn't this destroy the whole point of Torchwood?

If kids want to watch it, just watch the [rather good] Sarah Jane Adventures (a former Doctor Who companion leads a bunch of young people in investigating alien activity).
